In late 2008 the San Francisco FBI Division approached alumni from the FBI SF Citizens' Academy in a partnership to establish an FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association chapter.   A small group of alumni organized as a volunteer interim Board of Directors, established a web site, a members only Google Group and with the help of the SF FBI began inviting other alumni to join the FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association chapter.  The first quarterly meeting of the FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association chapter was on February 24, 2009.

The FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association chapter has been organized as a private, nonprofit organization and is not part of the FBI.  The FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association chapter is part of the FBI National Citizens' Academy Alumni Association, a community-based and supported organization, distinct and separate from the FBI, designed to promote a safer community through community service projects and a process of educating business, labor, media, medical, minority, religious, government, senior citizens, and other community leaders about law enforcement, with particular emphasis on the mission, resources, and limitations of the FBI.  The FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association is a California public benefit, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.  Operations of the FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association are managed by a volunteer, elected Board of Directors.  The FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association is not part of the FBI.

The FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy accepts members who have graduated from any FBI Division Citizens' Academy class and who are now living in the SF Bay region.

All members of the FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association chapter must undergo periodic background checks by the FBI.  The FBI first performs this background check when you attended the FBI Citizens' Academy class and will repeat the check every five years.  The FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association chapter has no involvement in the background check process.

Only "members in good standing" may participate in FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association chapter activities.  "Good standing" includes the receipt of a verified membership application, dues paid and a current FBI background certification.  The FBI San Francisco Citizens' Academy Alumni Association Board of Directors has set dues at $25 per year.  Payment is due when your application is submitted.
